Social Meditations
The concept of 'Social Meditation' was developed by Veeresh. Traditionally meditation is practiced alone and with closed eyes. You practice Social meditation together with other people, and only partly with closed eyes.
A group of people who meditate together because they want to create more love on this planet has an impact that cannot be estimated.
Interviews with participants
QUESTION: If you look at the Social Meditations, what is the effect on you, what is happening for you in the Meditations?
PARTICIPANT: What I find in every Social Meditation is a change in myself. I feel much more connected with myself and other people, and I feel much lighter.
QUESTION: To come in contact with your yourself you could also go jogging or beat a pillow in your room. What is the difference with doing Social Meditations?
PARTICIPANT: If I go jogging, I am alone. In a Social Meditation there are people who meditate with me. With jogging I would also move my body and feel good afterwards, but what I like is the connection with people. What I also like is the mood of the Social Meditations; they are very light. It feels like hanging out with friends.
QUESTION: How do Social Meditations affect your daily life? Do you find a change in your way of relating ?
PARTICIPANT: The Re-Enlightenment Meditation comes up in my mind. The first stage is called 'The Marketplace' where you imitate car accidents, having big arguments with each other and finally you say, "Sorry, it was actually my fault." The other says the same and finally you can forgive and meet and love each other again. Sometimes I am in an argument with a friend or a fight with my boyfriend. And when I get stuck - he has his position, I have my position - I remember this stage from the Re-Enlightenment Meditation and I throw it in. I say, "Sorry, it was my fault" and it is easy again. In the Social Meditations I see simple ways of saying hello to each other.
QUESTION: How do you experience the music and the background talks from Veeresh as part of the Meditations?
PARTICIPANT: I find the music very supportive in the active and outgoing stages and also it triggers a lot of humor. When I see men and women singing in the Osho's Delight Meditation, I feel like in a love story where finally the hero finds his woman and I always feel very happy and touched by the singing. The music makes me feel warm and Veeresh's talks with their simple ideas and concepts wake me up to look for simple solutions in my life.
QUESTION: Can you say something about the short moments of silence in the Meditations when you sit by yourself?
PARTICIPANT: After being active and relating, the silence gives me an opportunity to collect myself again. I learned something before and now I integrate it. The silent parts of the Meditation make me very strong. It is integrating what happened before and preparing for what will happen in the next stage.
QUESTION: What is for you unique about social meditations?
PARTICIPANT 2: The most beautiful thing about social meditation for me is to meet people. For me the special thing is that I'm really able to meet people from my heart, just really from my heart. I always get very, very deeply touched in my heart.
QUESTION: Do you have a favorite Social Meditation?
PARTICIPANT 2: Yeah, I love the Osho's Delight.
QUESTION: Can you tell me why?
PARTICIPANT 2: I love this part where the men are in the circle and the women are in the circle and they sing, "I am love, you are love, we are love." That is for me... Normally the sexes... men and women always have something... And suddenly you are standing there and you meet all these beautiful men, and you look them in the eyes, and you sing, "I am love," and he sings, "I am love, we are love"... It's beautiful. I love that one the most of all the social meditations.
I could do it everyday! A deep wish I have is that we all start in the morning, we drop our work or whatever we're busy with, all the positions, and we all, every morning do one of the social meditations. That's a deep secret wish that I have. The silence parts in the social meditations, they go so deep, because it's like, when you feel love, and you feel loved, it's so much easier to go inside. And the silent parts are incredibly deep, and incredibly beautiful, and I love the combination of going out and going in.
QUESTION: Which Social Meditations do you like the most?
PARTICIPANT 3: The Love, Osho's Delight, and the Dance Meditation are great. I like the Re-Enlightenment the most.
QUESTION: Can you tell something about the Re-Enlightenment Meditation?
PARTICIPANT 3: The Re-Enlightenment is about the whole of life - everything from your birth to your death. The structure is like the AUM. In the AUM Meditation you have everything, and you really go for it. And then you do it a little bit softer and it's Re-Enlightenment.
PARTICIPANT 3: Every time I do the meditation, new things come up.
QUESTION: What comes mostly up?
PARTICIPANT 3: It's like an exercise to be with people and be in meditation at the same time. For me it's important that if I'm for instance in the subway or out shopping, I can also be in a meditative state. This is for me the most important thing that I can learn in the social meditations.
