Introduction to Social Meditation
Veeresh:
In 1974 I arrived in Poona and I understood that the whole trip was to do a lot of meditations so that you can get enlightened. I read a book, I think it was 'The Gateless Gate', and there was a technique that I thought suits me: Osho said that if you just concentrate on your breathing for ten minutes, then - bingo! - you get it.
So I thought, "That's for me, I want to do it really fast." I remember sitting in my hotel room. I sat on my bed thinking, "Veeresh, let's go for it." I started to breathe and suddenly the fan was disturbing me. I tried again: I started to breathe and then I heard a rickshaw going by. Then I started to breathe again, and I heard kids playing, then waiters walking up and down. In ten minutes I couldn't concentrate on my breathing.
I tried to figure out what meditation was all about. And I have a theory; here is how it goes:
In the beginning of time, you were walking around and maybe you tripped and banged your head. You wake up and you are what they call enlightened. You are sitting there blissed out under a palm tree. You open your eyes and suddenly you see this group of people sitting in front of you looking just like you, doing exactly what you are doing. Then somebody says, "Master!" You look around and they are talking to you. They say, "What is the truth?" You look at them, "Listen, I want you to come and just hang out and sit here and enjoy everything." Then another person says, "Which is your way?" All you want to do is to hang out under the palm tree and enjoy the environment. Then all these people are starting to look like you and they are starting to imitate you, asking you all these ridiculous questions. Then you say, "Listen, take a slow walk down the beach for a couple of hours and look at your footsteps and don't bug me." Somebody else comes up, "I want to know what is my path!" You start to get a little bit irritated. "Go under that palm tree, look at your thumb and run around in circle for a couple of hours."
I'm sure that meditation was invented so that the Masters could get some peace.
I was introducing the AUM Meditation yesterday and I was sharing a story of how Osho deals with problems. I thought I would show it with you, too.
I was walking around Rajneeshpuram and a Ma came up and said, "Veeresh, be here at a certain time, you are going to have a Darshan with Osho." I was so excited. I was standing there and then I realised that all the center leaders were standing there together. We ended up going to his trailer and the first thing that I was impressed with was that I expected the trailer to be in gold, that everything was absolutely luxurious, five stars standard kind of thing - and it was an ordinary trailer!
We all came marching in, the leaders, we sit in a line. There was his chair and then there was this line of cowboy hats. We were all looking at each other smiling, saying, "We are even going to get a cowboy hat!" Osho came out, sat down and called each center leader up. "How are you? How is the work going in your country?" Then he took a hat and put it on the person. Finally he came to Niketana, my friend from Amsterdam. "Niketana, how are you? How is the work going?" He took the hat and put it on his head, but it's too small. We were all looking at each other. "Maybe he will get a new hat..." Osho sat back, looking very serious. Very slowly he got down from his chair, he walked over to him and he pushed the hat on his head. That was the solution to the problem!
Last night I was so high on energy and I was talking to Big Prem and she said, "When was the last time you were here?" I said, "Eight years ago." And she said, "Why so long?" I said, "It's just too much."
It's like this, last time I was here, I was avoiding the Samadhi. I didn't want to go there. Then Garimo heard about it and she slowly took me step by step to the Burning Ghats. I didn't want to go. Finally, as we were going, she said, "We stopped here, people were celebrating..." Then tears started to come. Finally she said, "This is where we burnt him." Then I just started CRYING. When I opened my eyes there were all these beautiful Indians from the area who were sitting there in silence looking at me.
I understand the concept that, 'He was never born, he never died', that he is still alive. But the fact is that I just miss him. I just miss him... And I know he is here. I feel like a little kid missing a father. I'm glad to be back.
Next song that we are going to play for you is called 'Free' from the Osho Dance Meditation CD.
